Soon you won’t be hearing “Do you want paper or plastic?” when shopping at SeaWorld’s Shamu gift shop. SeaWorld Parks and Entertainment is eliminating the use of plastic shopping bags from all of the theme parks they operate by the end of the year.
The initiative will make them the largest theme park operators to undertake this commitment. Gift shops will offer paper bags made from 100% recycled paper, and visitors to the park will also be able to buy reusable bags.
By doing this, it is hoped that about 4 million plastic bags will be kept out of landfills each year and also save countless numbers of aquatic life that think the bags are jellyfish and use them as food— with disastrous results.
So the next time you go shopping, try to remember to take those reusable bags out of the back seat of your car and actually carry them into the store.
